Guide
Is an accessibility scanner enough for your Shopify store?
Most accessibility apps for Shopify are scanners: they crawl your storefront, grade it, and give you a list of problems to fix. That list is useful — but a list is not a fix.
This guide explains the difference between detecting accessibility issues and remediating them, so you can tell what an app actually does before you install it.
What a scanner does — and where it stops
A scanner renders your pages, checks them against WCAG 2.2 rules, and reports what it found: missing alt text, unlabeled controls, low-contrast text, broken heading order. Good scanners do this well, and seeing the inventory is a real first step.
The catch is that the work is still ahead of you. Every issue on the list has to be fixed by a person editing store data or theme code. The scanner has told you the 'what'; it has not touched the 'how'.
Why the to-do list is the hard part
For a busy merchant, a report of 200 issues is not reassuring — it is a backlog. Alt text has to be written and saved, controls labeled, contrast values changed in the theme, heading structure corrected. That is hours of work per store, and it recurs whenever the catalog or theme changes.
This is also where bundled 'store health' apps can mislead: pairing a scanner with SEO and session-replay features makes the app look comprehensive, but the accessibility half is still detect-only.
How Remedify is different
Remedify scans like any good tool, but it does not stop at the list. It proposes a specific fix for each issue, applies the safe data and app-embed changes once you approve them, and gives guided steps with the theme file and code for changes that need your judgment.
Each change is shown as a before/after diff you approve, and every applied fix is kept in a dated record — so what you have at the end is a corrected storefront and a history of the work, not another list to work through.
Questions to ask before you install
Does the app change anything, or only report? After I approve a fix, is it applied for me, or do I still do it by hand? What do I keep if I uninstall? Can I show a dated record of what was changed and when?
Detecting issues is easy and increasingly commoditized; doing the remediation and keeping the record is the part that saves a merchant time. That is the line Remedify is built on — real, reviewed fixes and a dated record of the changes, never a promise of a legal or conformance outcome.
